Case: VU University Amsterdam

Ever since it was founded in 1880, VU University Amsterdam has been known for its distinctive approach to knowledge. Academic research and education at VU is characterized by a high level of ambition, and encourages free and open communications and ideas. VU stands for universal university values such as academic freedom and independence, which is reflected in our name (‘VU’ is the Dutch abbreviation for ‘free university’): free from the church, state and any commercial interest. The VU has 10 faculties, 8 services en about 30 institutes/research centers. Cordeo offers the toolbox for managing the application of the VU brand in many communication items.

The challenge

  • The toolbox must provide the flexibility to facilitate all units to manage general, and own, assets and to create documents which match the corporate identity.
  • The toolbox should be recognizable as the VU toolbox (logo, colors)
  • Creating options for many types of documents, not only for printing but also for the web.

Our solution

The VU uses BrandSpot with the name ‘VU Toolbox’. Users of many faculties and services create many leaflets, posters, invitations, folders and adds themselves. Also the webbanners are created by using a user friendly wizard and are posted on the websites immediately. The VU corporate identity contains complex graphic elements and different styles per faculty with changing colors and logo. BrandSpot has managed to integrate this complexity in user friendly templates. Created and approved items are directly orderable in the WebShop and are produced at the own reproduction department.
